Services > Hospital Services
Stevens Community Medical Center is a fully-integrated, health care delivery system. This list describes
some of the services available.
Emergency Care
A physician is in the facility 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Emergency Department physicians and
staff are highly trained professionals who treat patients in distress.
Intensive Care
For patients who are critically ill or have cardiac conditions, Stevens Community Medical Center has a
dedicated Intensive Care Unit (ICU). This special unit is equipped with advanced monitoring equipment to
provide high-tech care in a caring environment. The nursing staff in ICU have received advanced training in
caring for seriously ill patients.
Surgery, including Short-Stay Procedures
Whether it's a complex surgical procedure or a simple tonsillectomy, patients in need of surgical services
are well cared for at Stevens Community Medical Center. Two surgical suites (operating rooms) with
state-of-the-art equipment help ensure that needed surgeries can be performed effectively and in a timely manner.
For surgical procedures that do not require an overnight stay, a comfortable and convenient patient room is
provided for your recovery.
A lounge with a television, reading materials, and a telephone is available for family members and friends
who are waiting while patients are in surgery.
Maternity Care
The birth of a child is a special experience. Stevens Community Medical Center provides a birthing room
to make it easy for families to experience this special time together.
New moms usually rest while their newborn is cared for in the nursery. The nursery is staffed at all times.
The option for rooming-in is also available.
Cardiac Rehabilitation
Cardiac rehabilitation programs are often required for patients recovering from cardiac illness. Stevens
Community Medical Center provides an outpatient cardiac rehabilitation program that is customized for every
patient. Cardiac rehabilitation programs are multi-faceted and focus on lifestyle change, diet, exercise,
weight management, and education.
Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapy
In partnership with Health South, Stevens Community Medical Center offers comprehensive Physical
Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Therapy for inpatients and outpatients. The therapy staff work with each patient and
their physician to develop customized therapy programs to deliver maximum results.
Spinal Injection for Back Pain
Lumbar Epidural Myelography with Therapeutic Injection (or spinal injection for back pain) is for those patients
who have not responded to other treatments such as medications or physical therapy.
An MRI is performed to discover the cause of the pain, then local anesthetics and steroids are used to
relieve the patient's symptoms.
The success of this procedure ranges from slight improvement to complete relief. It may help some patients to
avoid surgery, however, some patients may not experience any benefits from this procedure.
Patient and Community Education
A wide variety of medical information, education materials and programs are available to Stevens Community
Medical Center patients. Information is provided through classes held at the medical center as well as through
printed materials.
Courage Cottage
The Courage Cottage is a five
bedroom residence, licensed as an adult foster care home, specializing in the care of people with
illnesses on a 24 hour a day, seven day a week basis - all in a home-like atmosphere.
